British beauty and Lagerfeld muse Poppy Delevingne (pictured) is the face of Australian shoe brand Meandher. Designer Emily Cooper tells Buzz she enlisted her model friend at a Chinese restaurant over “a few spins of the lazy Susan” in London.
Launched in December, Cooper’s women’s collection — handmade in Italy — evolved from her men’s line, hence the masculine-inspired loafers, Oxfords and Derbys given a femme spin in metallic and animal print leathers. Cooper attended Milan’s prestigious Ars Sutoria footwear institute and is a stickler for traditional craftsmanship.
The hip, gender-straddling shoes hit big from season one, picked up by Equipment in New York and LA and swiftly found their way on to the feet of Drew Barrymore, Emma Watson, Carolyn Murphy and Sienna Miller. “The exposure from that has been amazing,” says Cooper, helping land Delevingne from season two on. The Sydneysider’ s fascination with footwear began by collecting shoes as a youth. But she found her calling after travelling to South America. “I discovered the espadrille and started my first label importing them,” she says.
